A fling a few metro stops from home

The neighbourhood sits in the east end, inside the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, and for something casual it has one big advantage: the metro. Several stations fall within its limits, so you can meet someone from further down the line without either of you driving or hunting for parking, and afterwards everyone gets home their own way.

The site takes three steps to set up and costs nothing while you look: profiles, photos, filters for age and for what people want. You move to a Gold subscription to write, then the two of you pick whichever station suits you both.

Honoré-Beaugrand, Radisson, Langelier, Cadillac and Assomption stations are all in the neighbourhood, which leaves you plenty of choice for a meeting point. As for landmarks, there's the Sanctuaire Marie-Reine-des-Cœurs, the Maison de la culture on Rue Hochelaga, and Parc de la Promenade-Bellerive, which runs along the St. Lawrence River and suits an aimless stroll for two.

Where to meet in the neighbourhood

A meal

Bistro Le Cerf-Volant

Rue Hochelaga

A bring-your-own-wine bistro in Tétreaultville. Showing up with a bottle picked for the other person is already a first gesture, and dinner can take all the time it needs.

A night out

Maison de la culture Mercier

Rue Hochelaga

A venue that presents shows, exhibitions and plays. An exhibition is something you walk through while talking, at your own pace, and a show gives the evening a ready-made ending, with or without a sequel.

A walk

Parc de la Promenade-Bellerive

Rue Bellerive

A linear park on the St. Lawrence River, with an ice-cream stand and picnic areas. Ice cream in hand, you walk along the water, and the conversation finds its own pace without anyone forcing it.

Do you have to leave Mercier to find a hookup?

No, and that's the neighbourhood's strong point. With the metro right there, a bring-your-own-wine bistro on Rue Hochelaga and the walk along the river, you can set up a first date without changing neighbourhoods. Say clearly what you're after, suggest a public place, and let the other person pick the time. To start, create your free profile and browse the people who want the same thing.

Your questions before you start

What does a no-strings fling look like around here?
Something simple: two adults who've said what they want, then dinner or a walk somewhere public in the neighbourhood. On the site you browse profiles by age and by what people are looking for, and a Gold subscription lets you write. The metro does the rest, with several stations in the area.
Where should we meet the first time?
Rue Hochelaga works well for a first date: Bistro Le Cerf-Volant for dinner, the Maison de la culture Mercier for an evening out, and nothing says you have to do both. If you'd rather be outdoors, the Bellerive promenade has picnic areas facing the river and an ice-cream stand to break the ice.
By metro, where do we meet halfway?
The neighbourhood has Honoré-Beaugrand, Radisson, Langelier, Cadillac and Assomption stations. If the other person is coming from downtown, get off at Assomption or Cadillac, the first ones in the area on their way. If they're coming from further east, Honoré-Beaugrand or Radisson will do. Meet at the station, then walk together to the place you picked.
A plan B when it rains?
Place Versailles, the local shopping centre, makes a meeting point out of the weather: you meet indoors and dry, then decide together where to go next. A first contact in a busy public place is also a simple precaution, since either of you can leave whenever you want.
Can I sign up without showing my face?
Yes. Photos aren't required: your profile exists without them, and you add some if you feel like it, whenever you choose. With the free account you can already look at other members' profiles and photos. A Gold subscription then opens the full galleries and lets you write.
